Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Marketing & Brand Officer. This role is for an April 21st start date and has a projected end date of July 31st 2026. This is a full-time role at 35 hours per week. Payment is set at £19.14 per hour + £3.58 holiday pay. This role will be UCL hybrid working with 2 days from the office and the other days from home. This role is suitable for UCL Students Only.
 

The Vice-President External Engagement (VPEE) team delivers communications and marketing activity for UCL, working to ensure UCL’s public prominence, reputation and influence reflects the university’s excellence in knowledge creation, education, and innovation.

Reporting to the Brand Executive, the Marketing and Brand Officer will work as an integral member of the Brand team. The role involves supporting the implementation and elevation of the UCL brand, in marketing, communications initiatives at every level.

The Marketing and Brand Officer will help to ensure the UCL projects inform and align with the overall UCL brand, supporting the maintenance of the brand identity standards and brand architecture. They will provide direction on the creative use of visuals to support the brand. They will join the team at a crucial time and be part of pivotal brand projects the team are leading for the university.

Duties and responsibilities

Brand management

  • Be the first point of contact for brand enquires that come to the brand inbox. Triage queries and provide advice and guidance concerning the use of the UCL brand, working collaboratively with Legal Services, subsidiaries, VP offices and faculties
  • Support the implementation of the brand cohesively across the university and through all brand communications and campaigns produced by VP External Engagement (e.g. brand identity, architecture and development, logo usage). Maintain the database of official requests
  • Support in the delivery of the Brand Induction series, brand trainings sessions and other presentations / meetings

Brand experience

  • Write copy for the brand pages and ensure content is kept up to date
  • Support the team to keep Brand resources and photos on the digital assets management system (Imagestore) refreshed and current

Administration and Project delivery

  • Draft copy, edit and proofread communications before publication
  • Support the ongoing communications cascade and coordination for the brand framework project, which includes the UCL’s brand refresh project
  • Set up new suppliers, raise purchase orders, process invoices and support in budget management
  • Act as the key administrator to help manage the team’s schedule for project delivery. Set up meetings, roadshows, workshops, focus groups, prepare presentations, pre-reads, meeting notes, de-briefs, prepare and circulate documentation as needed
  • Order catering and prepare audio visual and ensure meetings and events run successfully
  • Manage the UCL branded assets that are loaned to key members of the VP External Engagement team

Brand ambassador

  • Build external and internal networks to develop sector and best practice for the UCL brand, providing updates at UCL groups and Communities of Practice around the brand framework
  • Work with the team to ensure that all UCL merchandise that is ordered through our preferred supplier are on brand and produced to a high quality

General responsibilities

  • Be an active member of VP External Engagement, working at four of the 28 graduation ceremonies each year and three out of four prospective student Undergraduate Open Days and/or Graduate Open Evening as a minimum
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required
  • Help with training as appropriate
  • Maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Skills and experience

Qualifications, experience and knowledge

  • Abilities commensurate with education to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Relevant employment experience in general administrative work
  • Good general computer literacy: i.e. keyboard skills, use of Microsoft Office software, use of database software, familiarity with the use of email and the internet
  • Familiarity with the use of web design and site management software for the creation of web pages within pre-set templates
  • Good command of the English language to enable the post holder to edit and correct copy for clarity of expression as well as for grammatical and spelling errors

Skills and abilities

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with an ability to adapt messages and visual identity for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way  
  • A high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in writing and in person, with the ability to tailor and communicate content effectively when dealing with academic staff, external suppliers and departmental colleagues in different formats
  • The ability to work as part of a team and listening skills when dealing with internal customers and colleagues
  • The ability to work on own initiative, manage time effectively and work to a number of concurrent deadlines
  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload and respond flexibly and positively to changes in technologies, work practices and the demands of different projects
  • Excellent attention to detail across design and copy

  • Confidence when working independently or as part of a team
