THE ROLE 

The role will support the delivery of social media and communications to students highlighting the impact on student(s) from across the DMUsport programmes.

They will be a key part of gathering content, conducting research, writing copy and editing media.Our ideal candidate would be a current DMU student looking for work experience within an area relevant to their current studies; however we welcome all applications for those who meet the criteria.

This role is a flexible, hybrid based role - hours will vary and are project based this could average to 0.5 of a day per week. The start date will be as soon as possible with a current end date of 31/07/2026.

Duties and responsibilities

Content Creation

  • Lead the development of the DMUsport website, ensuring content is accurate, engaging and up to date.

  • Support the organisation, promotion and delivery of DMUsport events.

  • Create and deliver communications and content for a range of activities and audiences, showcasing all DMUsport programmes.

  • Plan and produce content for newsletters, updates, social media and the website.

  • Develop and maintain a diverse bank of sports images representing all programmes and the student body.

  • Raise awareness of DMUsport activities, highlighting student impact and success.

Administration

  • Embed student voice across all activities.

  • Attend events and meetings, including outside core hours, to build stakeholder relationships and support projects.

  • Contribute to departmental activities, developments and new initiatives under management guidance.

  • Work with clubs and Sport Coordinators to gather and share achievements and updates.

  • Collaborate with staff to identify priorities and plan a content calendar across platforms.

  • Support marketing project plans, including varsity events, celebrations and awards evenings.

Working as Part of a Wider Team

  • Collaborate with Sport Coordinators to identify and engage student influencers to increase participation and online engagement.

  • Ensure consistent messaging and tone across all DMUsport platforms.

  • Support colleagues across the DMUsport team and contribute to shared objectives.

  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role as required.

  • Treat all individuals with dignity and respect, supporting equality, diversity and inclusion in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Skills and experience

  • Two A Levels in a relevant subject or equivalent

  • Experience of writing for different audiences across print and digital media

  • Experience using a wide range of social media (including Twitter and Instagram) to promote products, events, or services

  • Demonstrable understanding of communications and marketing strategies

  • Creativity and imagination, with the ability to turn ideas into reality

  • Ability to create and develop networks

  • Knowledge of analytical and insight tools

  • Knowledge of, and a keen interest in, a range of sports

  • Ability to maintain excellent administrative systems and strong organisational skills

  • Ability to work proactively and on own initiative, often to tight deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency across communications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, email, and the internet

  • Empathy in dealing with students/customers

  • Commitment to observing Equal Opportunities policy

  • Willingness to work flexible hours when required
