Duties and responsibilities

  • Implementation of Evaluation Activities: Assist in planning and delivering focus groups and other data collection exercises, following the frameworks and protocols established by the evaluation consultant.
  • Data Collection and Management: Gather qualitative and quantitative data from focus groups, surveys, live event feedback, and volunteer reflections, ensuring ethical standards and data integrity.
  • Data Analysis and Synthesis: Conduct thematic coding of qualitative data and support analysis of quantitative metrics under the guidance of the evaluation consultant, contributing to robust and consistent reporting.
  • Reporting Support: Prepare summaries and feedback to inform project delivery, highlighting key trends and insights identified through data collection.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work closely with project staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to ensure effective capture of participant experiences, contributing to evidence-based improvements in events and materials.
  • Training and Professional Development: Gain experience in evaluation best practices, research methodology, and project-level reporting under the mentorship of the evaluation consultant.

Skills and experience

  • Currently enrolled in a postgraduate research programme in the social sciences or a related field, with knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Experience or training in focus group facilitation, survey administration, and data analysis is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to support multiple evaluation activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional engagement with participants, volunteers, and academic partners.
  • Knowledge of ethical research practices, including confidentiality, consent, and data protection.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under the direction of senior staff and external consultants.
  • Demonstrated interest in widening participation for higher education, and equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) research is desirable.
