Role
UCL’s Student Welcome and Induction team are recruiting a Student Welcome and Induction Officer (Transition) to support the coordination and delivery of the Transition Mentor Programme, a peer mentoring scheme that supports first-year undergraduate students as they settle into life at UCL. This role will run from Thursday 28 May – Friday 11 December 2026. Payment is set at £19.14 per hour + holiday pay. This is a full-time role working 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday and is hybrid based with 1 day per week in the office as standard. During peak operational periods, the role will require full-time presence on campus.
Working closely with the Senior Student Welcome and Induction Officer, the role will support the delivery of the programme, including coordinating over 900 Transition Mentors and 100 Senior Mentors, supporting recruitment and training activity, maintaining programme records, and assisting with communications and engagement.
The postholder will also contribute to the delivery of Welcome and Induction activity across UCL’s Bloomsbury and UCL East campuses, supporting services such as ID card collection, welcome helpdesks and ambassador coordination.
Duties and responsibilities
This role supports the planning and delivery of the Transition Mentor Programme and contributes to the coordination of large-scale Welcome and Induction activity across UCL.
Key responsibilities include supporting mentor recruitment and training, coordinating mentor groups and communications, maintaining programme records, and assisting with the delivery of events and welcome services on campus.

The role is based at UCL Bloomsbury, London WC1, with activity taking place across both Bloomsbury and UCL East campuses.
Student and Registry Services operates hybrid working, with a minimum expectation of one day per week in the office (Thursday).
During the main Welcome period in September–October, the role will require full-time on-campus working and extended hours.
Skills and experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Experience supporting projects, programmes or events
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage data accurately
- The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with colleagues
Experience working in higher education, student support, mentoring schemes or events delivery would be advantageous.
