Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Assistant within the School of Slavonic and East European Studies department. The role is to work the date of 30th March 2026 and will run until 29th May 2026 part time at 22 hours per week. Payment is set at £20.57+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be HOME based.

Founded in 1915, the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) is the UK's largest institution for research and teaching on Russia, the Baltics, and Central, Eastern and South-East Europe.
 
Our mission is to create in-depth knowledge of Russia and Eastern Europe in regional, comparative, transnational, and global contexts, and to promote and disseminate an understanding of our region to the wider world; developing multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multi-method approaches to knowledge creation and to teaching; and to enhance the development of area studies at UCL and among the wider academic community.
 
We offer undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes, both within our four core disciplines (Politics and Sociology; Economics and Business; Languages and Culture; and History), as well as interdisciplinary programmes (for example, our BA in History, Politics & Economics).
 

Duties and responsibilities
To provide project support for research examining how different pay determination methods -particularly in contexts without collective bargaining - shape wage outcomes in the UK. The research will be based on the quantitative analysis of firm- and worker-level survey data. The project is a collaboration with Centre for Economic Performance at London School of Economics and Political Science.

The role will focus on data cleaning, statistical analysis, and conducting a structured literature review to inform the project’s design and findings.
 
  • Data cleaning: firm- and worker-level survey data from the UK
  • Statistical analysis: producing descriptive statistics, cross-sectional and longitudinal regression analysis
  • Structured literature review
  • Regular (every second day) online meetings with the project leads

Skills and experience

  • A BA/Masters level in economics, economic geography or related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience of applied economic research
  • Experience analysing micro data in Stata
  • Good econometric skills
  • Good data handling skills
  • Very good language and communication skills
  • Accredited researcher with the UK Data Service Secure Lab
