Role

We are seeking research assistants for the ThirdGen project to (a) translate the survey questionnaire from English into one of the following languages: German, French, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, or Kurdish, (b) conduct mock survey interviews, (c) other work relating to the fieldwork preparations. Familiarity with social science survey questionnaires and research is desirable. Payment will be on hourly basis. This opportunity is open to postgraduate researchers (PhD students) with good command of English and one of the specified languages.

The Third Generation (ThirdGen) Project is a major research project which is selected for funding by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator) and funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). It aims to collect survey data on the grandchildren of the Turkish labour workers in European countries and their counterparts in Turkey. Duties and responsibilities

  • Translate the questionnaire from English into one assigned language (i.e., German, French, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, or Kurdish).
  • Ensure accurate translation of social science terminology.
  • Maintain confidentiality of research materials.
  • Work closely with the project team for clarifications or revisions.
  • Respond to revision requests promptly, if necessary.
  • Submit translated documents within the agreed timelines.
  • Other assigned related work.

Skills and experience

  • Must be UK- based postgraduate researcher (PhD student).
  • Professional level proficiency in English and one of the following languages: German, French, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, or Kurdish.
  • Experience with academic translation, preferably in the social sciences (desirable).
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Attention to detail and understanding of research ethics.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
