Role

Unitemps are recruiting for three Overnight Wellbeing Officer within the Access And Widening Participation department. The role is to work the date of 1st June 2026 and will run until 31st August 2026 full time at 35 hours per week. Payment is set at £23.11+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be CAMPUS based.

The UCL Access and Widening Participation Office delivers activities to encourage applications from students from socio-economic backgrounds currently under-represented in higher education.
 
The Summer School is a five-day residential. The Overnight Wellbeing Officer is responsible for providing pastoral support, guidance, and escalating any issues to senior members of staff throughout the evening. For more information on the Summer School: here.

Duties and responsibilities
As an Overnight Summer School Wellbeing Officer, you’ll be responsible for looking after participants on the Summer School overnight. Working in a team of two you will be the first point of contact for Year 12 students staying in university halls of residence, providing pastoral support, guidance, and escalation to senior staff if any issues arise during the night. 

You will work 10.00pm - 8.00am and accommodation and breakfast will be included.
 
The dates for this years Summer Schools are:
Monday 27 July 2026 – Friday 31 July 2026
Monday 17 August 2026 – Friday 21 August 2026
  • Supervise Year 12 Students on the UCL Summer School overnight 
  • Work unsupervised with assess to staff in the event of a serious incident or emergency
  • Provide summer school participants with pastoral support if any issues arise in the night and address any behavioural concerns in a timely manner
  • Problem solve and escalate to Access Team staff when appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Overnight Wellbeing Officer to deliver appropriate support to students ensuring safeguarding policies are adhered to
  • As this role is overnight, you will be working unsociable hours

Skills and experience

  • Understanding of the aims and objectives of widening participation 
  • Understanding of the barriers to Higher Education that may affect participants 
  • Experience of working with children or young people, through paid or voluntary work
  • Experience of providing pastoral support for young people or undergraduates
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • The ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, and particularly those from groups under represented in Higher Education
  • The ability to take initiative and resolve problems when needed 
  • The ability to take and give instructions effectively
  • The ability to reflect on own performance and improve, and to respond well to constructive feedback
