Role
*Ringfenced to LJMU students and recent graduates*

The LJMU Library offers 24/7 access to over 890,000 e-books, 150,000 e-journals, and various databases via Library Discover. It provides digital resources, including LinkedIn Learning and PressReader, with 24/7 online support through Ask the Library. The service prioritizes digital accessibility for students, alongside, physical, and special, collections. The Electronic Library Dashboard Project Assistant role sits within the Digital Content Services Team, a small team who provide seamless access to digital resource content. Reporting to the Digital Content Service Team Leaders, the Project Assistant will contribute to the delivery of the teams service. The role will tidy up and draw together financial data, statistics and text from numerous Excel documents and worksheets. The outcome will be an Excel Dashboard for use at Library Management meetings.

Duties and responsibilities

Estimated 72 student hours, preferably broken up over a month (x6 weeks) to allow time for Management and completion of this project. Evening and remote work possible with contact time required to manage the project development.

The Libraries Top Slice Excel sheet will be the main data for handling.  This includes dates, text and financial data (£ and $) The data held is a Year on Year exercise so the data will be manipulated each year to monitor expected spend. The Library use this sheet and a multitude of other Excel sheets to calculate usage trends. The project is broken into two stages. We welcome both stages to utilise Microsoft apps and AI techniques. Stage 1. In the first instance “tidy up “data so that data can be sorted by column. Introduce a formula to colour code items on the “watchlist” Introduce a formula to calculate the “flag for review” based on Renewal date information Calculate a 7% uplift in “Estimate” column If a figure in “number of years outstanding for PO” ensure this matches the Renewal date

Stage 2 of the project could look at uses of AI/ Forms to consolidate, calculate and present spend alongside usage data. Create a template based on the Bulk Renewal Word Document Explore options to bring usage data into the template.

Skills and experience
Essential: Strong familiarity with Microsoft Excel; handling formulas, Pivot tables, charts, formatting and analysis. Good Maths and English skills  Attention to detail and confidence to ask questions.
