Role
Research assistant for collecting and coding text data
Start Date: 01/04/2026
End Date: 31/07/2026
Working Hours: To be arranged with hiring manager
Pay Rate: £17.02 per hour
Holiday Pay Rate: £2.05 per hour
Location: UoN, University Park Campus
Dress Code: Smart Casual
Duties and responsibilities
- Search and download text from the database of Chinese publications and newspapers
- Archiving the text
- Coding the text
Skills and experience
- Past related experience with collecting, downloading, archiving, and especially coding text from Chinese publications, especially newspapers and those in social science, will be strongly preferred.
- Ability to read Chinese text proficiently and write in English competently; able to code text; ability to search for text in the database of Chinese publications (DCP); familiar with MS Excel and Word, as well as DCP; training in UG in asocial science field is a must and a MA in social science is strongly preferred.
- Skills with programmes for language coding such as R and Python are welcome.
