Description

Role
The role is to support a project on European Union tobacco law, specifically on how free movement of goods applies to tobacco. It is in the context of the UK's Tobacco and Vapes Bill, and specifically its application to Northern Ireland.

Duties and responsibilities
The work will support a small Belfast-based anti-tobacco NGO, but more broadly will aim to show governments of EU Member States that policies like the UK's smoke free generation are not necessarily in breach of EU internal market law. 

You will work with legal texts - especially detailed case law - to make an argument to support the anti-tobacco lobby.

Skills and experience

- excellent legal analysis skills in the context of EU law at PG level

- good EU law research skills

- expertise in OSCOLA and other referencing systems used for law/in social sciences

- exceptional written communication skills

- exceptional time management skills

- clear verbal communication skills

- ability to take responsibility for discrete pieces of work in a larger project

- familiarity with MS Teams or equivalent

- a high mark in an assessment in EU law at PGT level

Working pattern: Total of 35 hours across the project. 
You will need to be able to fit the work within your other commitments, and to let the project team know when you will deliver various interim deliverables.
 
This role is open to current students and recent graduates. 
 
Interview to take place on 19th & 20th March.
