Role
In this role, you will provide a student perspective to support and enhance the delivery of the Forensic Science programme.
You will assist with practical, technical, and developmental activities that strengthen teaching, learning, recruitment, and outreach.
The position offers an opportunity to develop subject knowledge and practical skills in forensic science while contributing to course innovation and student engagement initiatives.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of forensic datasets, case studies, and scenario-based learning materials for teaching and outreach purposes
  • Test and evaluate new learning activities, providing structured feedback to enhance student experience and learning outcomes
  • Opportunity to assist in action research relating to emerging technologies and developments within forensic science and the wider criminal justice sector
  • Support recruitment and outreach activities, including open days, applicant visit events, and school/college workshops, delivering demonstrations and engaging prospective students
  • Contribute to the development and updating of recruitment materials and teaching resources, including practical exercises and supporting documentation
  • Contribute to the activities of the Centre for Crime, Justice and Security by supporting events, research initiatives, collaborative projects, and outreach activity, providing a student perspective where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Forensic Science and Investigation teaching team, demonstrating flexibility in supporting a range of academic, practical, and outreach activities as required
  • Where appropriate, and where knowledge exists, support the delivery of lectures and practical sessions, assisting teaching staff to enhance student learning.

Skills and experience

  • A basic understanding of forensic science
  • Familiarity with laboratory practice or handling technical equipment (desirable)
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for supporting innovative teaching methods and enhancing student learning
  • Good communication skills, particularly when engaging with prospective students or external visitors.

Qualifications:

Passed level 5 and eligible to proceed to placement year.
