Description

Role
*Ringfenced to current International students at LJMU*

Student Futures is LJMU's Careers, Employability and Start-Up Team.  The team provides a range of crucial services for students, such as one-to-one careers and start-up support, in-curriculum and extracurricular employability workshops, access to online resources and digital tools, as well as networking opportunities through employer events and careers fairs. To help us to continue to enhance the support and information resources for international students and graduates, we are looking to recruit three international students from programmes across LJMU to work with the team on a paid co-creation internship

Duties and responsibilities

The overall purpose of this internship is to review available support for international LJMU students and graduates and to create a range of resources to enhance the Student Futures Team’s existing offer.

Responsibilities:
• To review some of the existing careers information resources and online content on the Student Futures website, providing feedback from an international student perspective.

• To co-facilitate a focus group with international students to collect additional student feedback on existing provision.

• To conduct research into the experiences of international students and graduates regarding job-hunting, navigating the UK job market, and UK workplace etiquette.

• To produce a range of resources for international students/graduates to help understand and navigate the job market in the UK, including part-time jobs, internships/placements and graduate jobs. These could include (but are not limited to) guides, FAQs, infographics, case studies, social media content, short videos, or podcasts.

• To produce a resource for employers on hiring international students, including explainers on the graduate visa route and sponsorship basics.

• To provide suggestions about how to promote the newly created resources effectively to international LJMU students and graduates.  This may potentially include for example, providing ideas about a launch event which would promote these new resources to students, and the co-creation interns may also possibly be asked to participate in this event.

Skills and experience

• Confident verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to conduct research independently and to assimilate this research into the resources produced.

• Strong time management and independent organisation skills.

• Excellent attention to detail.

• An ability to demonstrate initiative and to come up with creative suggestions.

• Team working skillls and a willingness to work collaboratively with fellow co-creation interns as well as members of the Student Futures Team, as required.

• Commitment to develop the employability and career outcomes of international students and graduates.

• An interest in employability, careers and student support.

• It is desirable for the intern to have an initial understanding of the UK labour market for students and graduates and an appreciation of the challenges international students and graduates experience.

What You’ll Gain:

• Hands-on experience of creating content and meaningful resources that directly support international students and graduates.

• Experience of working collaboratively with other co-creation interns and staff from LJMU Student Futures.

• Insight into careers, employability and student support work within Higher Education.
