Description

Role
We are seeking to appoint a part time Research Assistant to help with collecting data for our School Leadership project. This is an important research project which will deepen our knowledge and understanding of school leadership in England, and we hope that the successful candidate will develop both their knowledge of the sector, and their understanding of professional research skills. The successful candidate will have an in-depth, working knowledge of secondary schools and academies in England, including a detailed understanding of roles such as Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENDCOs) and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs); these are the focus of this research project. Data collection will be in the form of searching for published literature about the leadership roles of SENDCOs and DSLs, as well as carrying out semi-structured interviews with a number of participants based in schools and academies. The successful candidate will make the necessary arrangements to carry out the interviews at a time which is convenient for the participants; following the interviews the successful candidate will prepare the interview transcripts for analysis. 

 
Start Date: 1/4/26
End Date: 31/7/26
Working Hours: To be arranged with hiring manager 
Pay Rate: £17.02 per hour Holiday Pay Rate: £2.05 per hour 
Location: UoN, with possibility of remote working
Dress Code: Smart Casual

Duties and responsibilities

• Arranging and completing semi-structured interviews with school-based staff via MS Teams
• Preparing the transcripts of the interviews for analysis
• Preparing Literature Review focussing on leadership roles of SENDCOs and DSLs
