Role
The School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a knowledgeable and committed individual to support the continued development of its teaching and scholarship in Politics and/or International Relations. As a research-informed, internationally recognised institution, the University is dedicated to delivering an outstanding student experience within a diverse and inclusive academic community.
You will bring subject expertise in Politics and/or International Relations, with a particular focus on supporting first-year undergraduate teaching. The core emphasis of the role will be the marking and administration of first-year assignments, ensuring academic standards are upheld and students receive high-quality, constructive feedback at a pivotal stage in their studies.
Duties and responsibilities
You will administer and mark first-year assignments in line with agreed criteria and within set deadlines, ensuring fairness, consistency and academic rigour. Providing clear, timely and developmental feedback will be central to the role, supporting students’ academic progression and engagement.
You will work in accordance with the University and School’s quality assurance processes, maintaining accurate records and supplying required information as necessary. You will also be expected to contribute to a professional and inclusive academic environment and to comply fully with health and safety requirements, including the completion of mandatory training.
Skills and experience
You will hold an undergraduate degree in Politics, International Relations or a closely related discipline and demonstrate current knowledge of the Higher Education curriculum in these areas. You will possess fluent or near-fluent proficiency in English, enabling you to undertake marking and administrative duties and to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, alongside good IT competency and the ability to organise and deliver work to agreed deadlines. A professional approach, attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high academic standards are key to success in this role.
