Role

The central Exams Office are looking to expand the team of invigilators for the May 2026 exam period which runs Tuesday 5th – Friday 29th May. 

Please state the date(s) that you are available in this period in your Cover Letter. 

City St George’s three main examination periods in January, May and August run annually. There is an opportunity to continue work in future examination periods based on performance.

Duties and responsibilities

Examination Invigilators are essential to ensure the fair and proper conduct of examinations in an environment that enables candidates to perform at their best.

Duties include:

Setting up the examination venue

Applying exam procedures

Supporting and supervising candidates

Collection and delivery of exam scripts and paperwork

Skills and experience

Ability to follow pre-defined processes and apply them consistently

Ability to follow the instruction of the Head Invigilator

Ability to handle difficult situations with support from the Head Invigilator

Accuracy and attention to detail

Professional attitude

Reliability

Flexibility

Previous Invigilator experience desirable

Due to the nature of this role, this position is not suitable for current City St George’s Undergraduate or City St George’s Masters Students. However, PhD students, staff and those external to City St George’s are welcome to apply.

Location
City St George’s, University of London, Clerkenwell Campus. A small number of exams may also take place at Finsbury Square.

This is an advert to recruit new Invigilators. Please do not apply if you are already an Invigilator for the central Exams Office.

If you have worked as an invigilator for our central exams team at City St George’s before, please get in touch with the Exams Office via ‘invigilators@city.ac.uk' as you may not need to apply for this role again.

Interview date: Wednesday 18/03/2026 and Thursday 19/03/2026 (remote via Teams)

Mandatory Training on Wednesday 08/04/2026 for successful candidates. The session lasts 2 hours and is paid. Please only apply for the role if you are available on this date as we are not offering alternative training sessions at this time.

Shifts will be allocated over the exam period which runs 5th-29th May 2026.

There are two exam sessions each day which are allocated based on required skills and exam needs. The AM shift will start at 09:15, the PM shift will start at 14:15. Shift lengths are dependent on the exam and are typically 2-4 hours.
