Role
The role will involve working alongside the project team in the School of Health Sciences on Phase 2 of the study “Healthcare Students’Integration of Generative AI in Academic Practice.” 

 
This phase explores healthcare students’ experiences of using generative AI through online focus groups, generating rich qualitative data.

The appointed PGR will support the team by completing high quality transcription of recorded focus groups and undertaking initial coding of the qualitative dataset.

This role is open to current PGR students at the University of Surrey and would suit PGRS from the School of Health Sciences.
 
£18.48 per hour.
£2.23 per hour holiday pay.
5.5 hours per week - all work can be completed remotely.
 
 
 

Duties and responsibilities

To contribute to the qualitative analysis of focus group data examining how healthcare students integrate generative AI into their academic practice.

Transcribe recorded online focus groups accurately and to a professional standard.

Conduct initial coding of qualitative data, work collaboratively with the research team to ensure consistency and rigour in the coding process.

Maintain secure and confidential handling of all research data.

Skills and experience

Essential:

Current University of Surrey PGR student.

Experience transcribing recorded focus groups or interviews.

Experience conducting initial coding of qualitative data using NVivo.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

Desirable:

Interest in developing further skills in qualitative data analysis.

Interest in pedagogic or education‑focused research.

Additional information

Work can be completed fully remotely, with optional opportunities to meet on campus if preferred. Regular support and check-ins will be provided by the project team.

The role is designed to fit around your PGR commitments, with up to 22 hours of work expected between March and April 2026.
