The role below is only for current Middlesex University students

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Research Assistant to support a small research project exploring students’ sense of belonging at university in relation to name recognition and multiculturalism. The project uses a mixed-methods design involving a focus group and survey. The assistant will contribute to data collection from focus groups and preliminary analysis. 

This role is ideal for a postgraduate or final-year undergraduate student interested in research methods, sociology, education, or related disciplines. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct focus groups with other Middlesex University students on MS Teams  
  • Edit the transcriptions of focus group recordings 
  • Organise and manage research data securely 
  • Assist with basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis 
  • Contribute to literature searches if required 
  • Attend occasional project meetings 
  • Attend the Annual Middlesex Learning and Teaching Conference to present the findings of the study together with the research leads.  

Skills and experience

  • Familiarity with qualitative (focus groups) and quantitative (surveys) research methods 
  • Strong organisational, project and data management skills 
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle student data with care and confidentiality 
  • Creative thinker with the ability to propose improvements and provide constructive feedback to the research leads

Hybrid (Hendon campus and remote)
