Role
The University of Salford owns and operates its own independent brewery, bakery, coffee shop/ café, and bar (The Old Fire Station and Lark Hill Brewery) serving high-quality, locally roasted coffee, artisan bread and pastries (baked fresh daily), freshly prepared Brunch and evening menu from the kitchen, and a range of beers brewed in our micro-brewery. Located at the heart of Salford Crescent. The role of student social media content creator will sit within the Old Fire Station and be responsible for raising brand awareness and creating engagement for the bakery and brewery, making sure that the world ‘out there’ knows about all the great things that happen here.
This is a hybrid role, involving creating content on site at the Old Fire Station and editing/ planning at home. We’re looking for a current University of Salford student to fill the role of Student Social Media Content Creator for the Old Fire Station and produce a range of engaging visual content for publication on the Old Fire Station’s Instagram. We ‘re seeking a student who is a passionate foodie, has knowledge of both Manchester and Salford food scenes, and can enthusiastically and confidently involve the bakery and brewery team in social media content.
The post is 8 hours per week until 31/07/26. Actual dates and times worked will be agreed with the line manager.
Duties and responsibilities
- Commit to 8 hours’ worth of time a week. Time will be split 50/50 between planning and content creation.
- Take ownership of the content on the Old Fire Station’s Instagram
- To ideate 2 or 3 pieces of content per week for the Old Fire Station, including creating content calendars, writing captions and posting (all with guidance and approval from the Social Media Manager)
- Encourage staff to get involved within content, creating an environment where they feel comfortable being on camera and can express their field passionately.
- To advise on new trends in soceity within the hospitality sector.
- Comply with the personal health and safety responsibilities specified in the University Health and Safety policy.
- Please note that the role is responsible for content planning and activation throughout the summer months, so availability to work out of term time is expected.
Skills and experience
- Experience and being able to create and edit reels, interviewing staff, involving staff within content, imagery and trends independently as these ideas will be developed in collaboration with the Social Media Manager at the university and then executed independently
- To be comfortable tailoring content to appeal to our different audience types that visit the bakery and brewery
- You’ll be familiar with Instagram and TikTok and have a good grasp of what makes for engaging, stand-out, aesthetic food and drink content
- Attention to detail with iPhone photography and videography is key
- Has an eye for what makes a great piece of content
- Experience in photo and video editing on mobile is essential (even if this is experience in creating content for your own platforms)
- Experience with Canva is desirable.
