Liverpool John Moores University has a proud history of supporting care experienced and estranged students. We are seeking one or two student interns who would describe themselves as coming from a background of care or estrangement from their family at any point during their life.The intern(s) will work with our existing part-time Employability Intern, who focuses on developing targeted support for care experienced and estranged students as they transition from degree study into their early careers. The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for researching, developing and writing/creating content for a new section of the Student Futures website dedicated to care experienced and estranged students. This work will support students as they navigate careers, employability and the transition beyond university, including those approaching the ‘care cliff’.

Together with the existing Employability Intern, you will co-create content and resources designed to directly support the employability, confidence and career development of care experienced and estranged students during and beyond their time at university.

The resources developed may also form the foundation for presentations or briefings delivered to the wider Student Futures team.

Duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
 

• To co-create, in collaboration with Student Futures staff, a dedicated website section (on the Student Futures website) supporting the career, job-hunting and employability needs of care experienced and estranged students during and after university
• To research, analyse and synthesise information relevant to care experienced and estranged students, translating this into clear, engaging and accessible content
• To develop written content, structured outlines and creative ideas for digital resources, including short videos, toolkits and guidance pages
• To contribute to the development of narratives and messaging that help care experienced and estranged students recognise, articulate and showcase their skills, strengths and lived experiences positively to employers
• To work collaboratively with Student Futures staff and the Employability Intern to ensure content aligns with existing support, services and institutional priorities
• To manage time effectively, meet agreed deadlines and contribute to planning the structure and scope of the website content

Essential:

• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, engaging and student-focused content

• Good analytical skills, including the ability to interpret information and identify what is most relevant and useful for the intended audience

• Creativity and innovation, with ideas for engaging digital content and resources

• Good organisational and planning skills

• An interest in employability, careers, widening participation or student support

Desirable:

• Experience of creating digital content (e.g. blogs, guides, videos, social media or web content)• Confidence contributing ideas in meetings or presenting work to others
