Role
Work Integrated Learning Team from Library & Careers are seeking a motivated PGR student to support a 12 week research project exploring external evidence on how different models of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) impact on student & graduate outcomes and contribute to closing the awarding gap. The role will involve conducting a structured literature review and undertaking qualitative research with colleagues across the UK and international higher education sectors and presenting findings with recommendations in a report.
Duties and responsibilities
- Review and synthesise existing academic and sector literature on the impact of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) models on student and graduate outcomes.
- Design and carry out qualitative research, including interviews or focus groups with practitioners and academic staff in UK and international institutions.
- Analyse findings to identify themes, trends, and evidence based best practices.
- Produce clear summaries, reports, and recommendations to inform institutional curriculum strategy.
- Present findings to internal stakeholders at the end of the internship.
Skills and experience
- Research & Analysis ability to conduct thorough literature reviews, evaluate external evidence, and synthesise complex information into clear insights.
- Qualitative Research skills experience in interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis, and working with qualitative data.
- Critical Thinking capacity to assess different Work Integrated Learning (WIL) models and their impact on graduate outcomes and the awarding gap.
- Communication strong written and verbal communication, including summarising findings for different audiences and producing high‑quality reports.
- Collaboration comfortable working with colleagues across the UK and international higher education sector; professional and confident when engaging with stakeholders.
- Organisation & Time Management ability to manage deadlines, structure research tasks, and work independently over a 12 week project.
- Attention to Detail ensuring accuracy in data handling, referencing, analysis, and reporting.
- Digital & Information Literacy confident using online databases, academic journals, and tools for managing and analysing qualitative research (e.g., NVivo, Excel, or similar).
