Do you want to bridge the gap between AI researchers/developers and the public, improving trust, fairness, and accountability? Do you want to help people start using AI in their daily life?
As a public engagement co-creators, we are looking for students who can design engagement activities to enhance the public knowledge on AI by providing hands-on AI experiences for the local community. These activities will help people engage directly with AI tools to generate ideas, artworks, or find solutions for their day-to-day challenges.
The student co-creators will help measure the public perception on AI by developing evaluation surveys and communication materials. They will also design engagement experience, and accessible public-facing guides to help people start using AI. The project will collect pre- and post-event public perception to measure changes in public understanding, trust, and confidence in AI.
In this role, you will be working with academics from the University of Warwick to design surveys, activities, communication materials, and analyse data.
Duties and responsibilities
Two student co-creators will help design the engagement experience by developing evaluation surveys, communication materials, and accessible public-facing guides. The project will collect pre- and post-event public perception to measure changes in public understanding, trust, and confidence in AI.
- Review and propose enhancements to public engagement resources
- Participate actively in ideas generation
- Create and test potential new public engagement resources
- Organise and support the promotion, logistics and delivery of collaborative meetings/workshops
- Promote a project and engage with project stakeholders (for example by email, in online and in-person meetings, and at collaborative workshops)
- Give presentations at meetings
- Design surveys and prepare ethical approval documents
- Identify, survey and gather information and content (for example, to evaluate a public engagement activity)
- Analyse data
- Write/produce reports from data findings
Skills and experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas in simple language
- An organised approach and ability to adhere to deadlines
- Excellent team working skills
- A professional attitude
- A creative approach to testing and developing ideas in a diverse team
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to draw conclusions and recommendations from information available
- Excellent IT skills and ability to learn new skills e.g. for editing workshop materials, creating evaluation forms, and engaging with stakeholders online
- Ability to demonstrate and communicate ideas, techniques, and knowledge
- Experience of conducting independent research
