We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic and resourceful individual to take on an important role in the set up and delivery of Liverpool Art Fair over the summer AND support the delivery of the dot-art Schools end of year prize giving event and exhibition.
Initially, from mid-May, you will support the dot-art Schools Project Manager to plan and manage this high profile event, taking place at St Georges Hall on 3rd June. Tasks will include creating Powerpoint and Word documents, helping pack and deliver parcels, support the installation of the exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery and helping at the event itself. You will also help invigilate the exhibition.
Then from late June, you will form an integral part of the dot-art team as we plan and install Liverpool Art Fair, which launches in early July. The Events Assistant will be a member of the team staffing the launch event, and then also staff the event during the first week, with the support of another team member,
The intern will need to be happy dealing with the general public and providing an excellent first impression and therefore must be confident, presentable and professional. The successful candidate will be independent, practical and resourceful as they will be working in a small team and covering a variety of roles. Excellent inter-personal and organisational skills will also be vital to ensure the event runs smoothly day to day.
Duties and responsibilities
- To support the planning and delivery of the dot-art Schools Prizegiving event on 3rd June at St Georges Hall, Liverpool and to invigilate the subsequent exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery at weekends, giving visitors information about the exhibition and keeping records of numbers.
- To support the installation period of Liverpool Art Fair, working with a team to curate and hang the exhibition, paint walls, move art work, and general set up tasks. Then help staff the exhibition, alongside another team member.
- As part of a team, to act as first point of contact for visitors, providing information, answering questions and processing sales, as well as keeping accurate and comprehensive records.
- To actively sell the art work on display as well as liaise with artists when necessary.
- To provide administrative and sales support for Liverpool Art Fair during its opening days / hours.
Main Duties
- Administration support in led up to dot-art Schools prizegiving event.
- General support on day of event (stewarding guests, IT set up, greeting VIPS etc)
- Invigilating dot-art Schools exhibition (welcoming visitors, answering questions, encouraging interaction)
- Hands on installation of artworks for both dot-art Schools and Liverpool Art Fair.
- Staffing Liverpool Art Fair event during opening hours (alongside another member of staff).
- Act as first point of contact for all LAF visitors.
- Ensure the venue is presented well at all times.
- Answer questions about the art work and artists on display.
- Encourage / develop sales of art work.
- Process sales.
- Keep accurate sales records.
- Keep visitor number records.
- Restock / rehang art work where necessary.
- Report to line manager on daily basis
- To undertake other duties as may be reasonably required within the general terms of this Job Description.
Skills and experience
Essential
- A genuine interest in the arts sector and the visual arts in particular.
- A confident and outgoing personality.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft office programs.
- Proven ability to work on own initiative and as part of a small team.
- Excellent organisational skills, self-motivation and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent verbal communications skills.
- Excellent attention to detail
Desirable
- Educated to degree level.
- Retail / sales experience.
- Interest to building a career in the arts
- Experience creating content for social media.
- Experience of promotion and marketing for creative programmes and events.
- Knowledge and understanding of the arts sector in Liverpool and the North West.
