Role
Background - Research & Impact Services are hiring research assistants to support our new AI Commons project which is sponsored by Research England and the University’s Enhancing Research Culture initiative.
About the role(s) – The research assistant(s) will work closely with the project leads to collect and analyse various types of data about the usage of - and attitudes towards - AI (broadly defined) across the University, primarily from a research culture perspective. They will also support the delivery of various data collection exercises and events, and create high quality written and visual reports of the project findings.
About you - The primary responsibilities of the role include: data collection, analysis and visualisation; event support (logistical, organisational and technological), note taking and report writing. The ideal candidate(s) will have a mixture of these skills, however we will consider arrangements to split responsibilities among ateam, depending on the unique backgrounds and skills of the individuals we recruit.
About us –The project team is situated within Research & Impact Services (R&IS) at the University of Warwick. R&IS is dedicated to providing strategic, administrative and developmental support to our research community, including responsibilities for University-wide processes and initiatives around: research strategy; grants and contracts; research ethics and integrity; governance and compliance; impact & innovation; and research culture. We work closely with colleagues at the National Centre for Research Culture in order to cultivate a vibrant environment where all those who contribute to research can thrive.
Duties and responsibilities
Working closely with the project leads, you will:
• Provide a comprehensive picture of attitudes towards – and usage of – AI tools across the University from a research culture perspective
• Meet with a broad spectrum of colleagues from different departments in a variety of data collection contexts to obtain high quality qualitative data
• Manage various data sources – including surveys and polls – and analyse the results to identify significant trends and patterns, and report on key findings
• Assist with the delivery of relevant events and activities, both online and in-person, taking notes and providing technical and administrative support where required.
• Liaise with the project leads and with colleagues across the University, communicating via MS Teams and email, attending relevant meetings and providing timely progress reports, both written and verbal
Skills and experience
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
Essential
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with strong track record of meeting deadlines. Experience of sensibly managing workload priorities and delivering results under the pressure of multiple time constraints
- Strong communication skills, with experience of writing and presenting reports in different formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and summarising information to senior stakeholders both verbally and in writing
- Strong data analysis skills, ideally both qualitative and quantitative, though we will consider applicants with expertise in either
- Ability to handle data in accordance with GDPR regulations and University retention policies in order to maintain data integrity and security, whilst ensuring traceability of data through clear, accurate and up-to-date documentation and version control
- Adept at working within a team and independently, with the ability to follow instructions closely but also to work effectively and proactively without supervision, and experience of collaborating on shared documents efficiently
- Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with different stakeholders, maintaining utmost professionalism
- Capacity to quickly master new areas of knowledge and relevant skills
- Familiarity with standard Microsoft applications and platforms, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams and MS Forms, as well as a high level of general IT literacy including the ability to access, store, share and edit digital files in different online and offline locations.
Desirable
- Familiarity with University processes and systems, ideally with experience of working at Warwick or another HEI environment
- Experience with and/or knowledge of GenAI
- An understanding of core project management concepts and priorities
Location
Hybrid role but you will be expected to attend occasional face-to-face meetings
