Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring two undergraduate students, to work this summer as Project Assistant Interns. The key purpose of this role is to support the project manager, and project team, in running Welcome week 2026 by shaping engaging activities and social media campaigns that welcome new and returning students.
Within this role, you will gain practical experience in project management, events management, and content creation. You will join the Project Team who are responsible for delivering the Information Services Group’s (ISG) Welcome Week for new and returning students.
You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 18th September 2026. You will work 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office 3-4 days during training, followed by a minimum of one day per week. During Welcome Week you will be required to work completely on campus. You will be paid £14.30 per hour, plus £2.59 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.

Duties and responsibilities
- Developing and running the project’s social media campaign (generating ideas, creating content, managing a social media timeline);
- Developing and running experiential activities (leading weekly planning meetings, managing communications with societies, liaising with the project manager about prizes);
- Assisting the project manager and project team in running Welcome Week 2026;
- Creating media content prior to, and during, Welcome Week;
- Leading a group of visiting VIPs through the Main Library during Welcome Week.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current University of Edinburgh undergraduate student (you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). Internships are open to all undergraduate students, except those in their final year of study;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, within commutable distance of Edinburgh, and able to work on campus (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
- You must be able to attend an in-person interview on campus on the 25th March 2026;
- A proven, active, interest in social media, photography, and video creation;
- Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals;
- A proven interest in project management;
- Evidence of good IT skills, such as the MS Suite Package (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Desirable criteria:
- Demonstrable experience in using photo editing software (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom, or Canva);
- Proven experience in using video editing software (e.g., Davinci Resolve, Premier Pro, or After Effects).
