Description

Role

We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support an exciting collaborative study investigating Do-It-Yourself (DIY) home retrofitting behaviours among UK homeowners. This project, in partnership with Nottingham Energy Partnership and Nottingham Trent University, aims to understand what drives homeowners to undertake DIY energy efficiency improvements and whether such activities deliver wellbeing benefits. The findings will inform policy development to support the UK's net-zero goals.

 

Start Date: 23/2/26

End Date: 10/4/26

Working Hours: To be arranged directly with the hiring manager

Pay Rate: £17.02 per hour

Holiday Pay Rate: £2.05 per hour

Location: UoN, School of Psychology, University Park Campus (hybrid working + onsite)

Dress Code: Smart Casual 

Duties and responsibilities

The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and project team to:Assist with programming and pre-testing the online questionnaire with a professional survey provider

Support data quality checks during and after the national survey data collection phase (N=1,000 UK homeowners)

Conduct statistical analyses to examine predictors of DIY retrofit behaviour and associated wellbeing outcomes

Contribute to the preparation of research outputs, including drafting sections of an academic journal article and policy brief

Assist with the organisation and delivery of a stakeholder dissemination webinar

Support literature reviews and reference management

Maintain organised project documentation and data records in compliance with research ethics and data protection requirements

 

Skills and experience
Essential Skills and Experience

 

Postgraduate or First class undergraduate degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Demonstrable experience with quantitative research methods and statistical analysis- Proficiency in statistical software (R or SPSS preferred)

Strong written communication skills with attention to detail

Excellent organisational and time management abilities

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team

Understanding of research ethics and data protection principles

 

Desirable Skills and Experience

 

Experience with survey design and online data collection platforms

Knowledge of multiple regression and correlation analysis

Experience with literature reviews and literature searching

Experience preparing academic manuscripts or policy-facing outputs

Interest in climate change, sustainability, or housing policy

Previous experience working on policy-relevant research projects
