The Role

You’ll be the first point of contact for employees, candidates and external stakeholders, providing friendly, first-line HR support via phone, email, shared inboxes and face-to-face interactions in a fast-paced environment. You’ll take ownership of queries and issues, resolving them efficiently while delivering excellent customer service.

Alongside this, you’ll support a range of HR administrative tasks and work closely with the People Support Coordinator and the Resourcing and Safeguarding Advisor to ensure a professional and efficient service.

The role works on a rota set by the People Support Team Leader, with around 80% of time based on campus to ensure consistent on-site support.

Assignment and Working Pattern

This is a temporary role, starting as soon as possible until 31 March 2026. The position follows a hybrid working pattern, with four days on campus and one day working from home each week.

The role is full-time (37 hours per week), working the standard DMU hours:

  • Monday & Friday: 8:45am – 5:00pm

  • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 8:45am – 5:15pm

Duties and responsibilities

People Support Hub

  • Be a first point of contact for HR queries, handling phone calls, emails and face-to-face enquiries

  • Manage a high volume of enquiries, resolving issues where possible and escalating when needed

  • Follow guidance and scripts for common queries and keep accurate records of interactions

  • Take ownership of enquiries to provide clear, timely and helpful solutions

Resourcing Support

  • Provide efficient administrative support across recruitment and onboarding processes

  • Communicate with candidates to ensure a positive, professional experience

  • Work closely with the People Operations team to support smooth and timely onboarding

  • Assist with internal recruitment processes

General

  • Maintain accurate HR records and support updates to processes and internal webpages

  • Work flexibly across the wider People Services team, with opportunities for cross-training and development

  • Support colleagues and take on additional duties appropriate to the role when required

  • Deliver an inclusive, respectful service that supports equality, diversity and inclusion for everyone

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience working in a busy office or administrative role

  • A strong commitment to delivering a professional, high-quality and customer-focused service

  • Ability to manage and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Confidence in providing clear, helpful advice in line with policies and procedures

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with people at all levels

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to quickly learn new systems

  • A tactful, discreet and professional approach when handling sensitive information

  • GCSEs (or equivalent experience) in Maths and English at grade 9–6 (A*–C) or above

  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

  • A proactive mindset with a willingness to support service improvements

  • A positive, collaborative approach to teamwork

  • An understanding of equality and fairness, applied sensitively when working with others

Desirable

  • Experience supporting employee lifecycle processes

  • Experience working in Higher Education or the public sector

  • Knowledge of data protection legislation, including GDPR
