Description

Role

SELCS is looking to recruit up to two Research Assistants to undertake project work with Dr Gill Frigerio (Director of Scholarship, SELCS) and Dr James Burford (Co-Director of Research Culture, SELCS & Deputy Director of DEAR Centre).

These roles will be particularly suited to PGRs/doctoral graduates undertaking research in higher education studies, or more specifically projects relevant to academic careers and professional development.

  • Working days/hours: There are up to two RA roles available. The budget allows for approximately 369 hours in total of RA support. We are willing to appoint one RA to work up to 369 hours, or two RAs to work up to 180 hours each. Flexible working hours are desirable. Working days/hours will be discussed with the successful candidate
  • Location: On-campus work at the Warwick campus in Coventry would be essential for data collection and a project event; hybrid working would be considered for other activities. Applicants are welcome to apply and discuss travel/working arrangements at interview.
  • This assignment is due to start 23 February 2026 until 31 July 2026

Duties and responsibilities

With the research leads, the post-holder will be assisting with a range of activities, which may include:

  • Contributing to a desk review of existing scholarship.
  • Assisting to design and undertake data collection (including focus groups).
  • Undertaking data processing (e.g. processing transcripts) and data analysis.
  • Development of workshop materials
  • Event coordination and management.
  • Collection of engagement and impact data relating to the above activities.

Skills and experience

  • Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in education or a related field (e.g., sociology, social policy).
  • The successful candidate will have knowledge of the UK higher education system.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills are essential.
  • The successful candidate will have a high level of autonomous working capabilities, including with regard to reviewing literature. 
  • Some experience of data collection and analysis (e.g., focus groups) is desirable.
  • Evidence of previous event management experience will be desirable.
  • Evidence of previous experience co-authoring a scholarly publication will be desirable.
