Description

Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring an undergraduate student to work this summer as an IT System Administrator and Developer Intern (Email Directory). The key purpose of this role is to design and implement a web-based application to provide name-based mail aliases for new staff and postgraduate students, and to design and implement a web-based application for people leaving the University who wish to ensure that email addresses in published research can be responded to.

Within this role, you will gain practical experience in designing a web-based application, building new web servers, and documenting the services and code for future use. You will join the Enterprise Services team, who are responsible for managing and developing the IT Infrastructure services that directly affect all staff, students and visitors at the University. This infrastructure provides the primary I.T. platforms for Information Services, student systems, virtual learning environments, web, email and hosting services for academic and research services.

You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 21st August 2026. You will work between a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh) and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office on Tuesdays. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £16.21 per hour, plus £2.93 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.
