Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring an undergraduate student to work this summer as an Information Resources Intern. The key purpose of this role is to review and improve the help and information resources (e.g., web pages, short videos, and SharePoint resources) that support the staff, students, and applicants who use MyEd and Notifications every day.
Within this role, you will gain practical experience in editing webpages and SharePoint sites, whilst also developing a series of short videos. You will join the Portal Services team who are responsible for managing MyEd and the Notifications service.
You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 21st August 2026. You will work between a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office on Monday and Wednesday every week. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £13.55 per hour, plus £2.45 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.

Duties and responsibilities
- Reviewing and updating the existing help and support pages for students and applicants;
- Exploring the ways we can encourage students to engage with these resources to help them get the most out of MyEd;
- Reviewing and improving the staff-facing SharePoint sites for MyEd and Notifications;
- Developing a series of short videos to introduce students to MyEd and Notifications;
- Producing new content to help staff understand how they can use MyEd and Notifications to support their projects and services;
- Testing content and resources with students and staff to ensure that they meet their needs and are easy to use.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current University of Edinburgh undergraduate student (you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). Internships are open to all undergraduate students, except those in their final year of study;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, within commutable distance of Edinburgh, and able to work on campus (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
- You must be able to attend an in-person interview on campus on the 23rd March 2026;
- Demonstrable experience of writing and editing content (e.g., web pages, guidance documentation);
- A proven ability to communicate information clearly and concisely to a wide range of audiences;
- Evidence of a detail-oriented approach to your work;
- Demonstrable time management and organisation skills, with the ability to plan own workload effectively;
- Proven experience of using one of more of the following: SharePoint, EdWeb, Drupal, Wordpress, Canva, CapCut, or other web content or video editing tools.
Desirable criteria:
- Proven experience of using SharePoint;
- Demonstrable experience of creating and editing video content;
- A proven enthusiasm, and interest in, the value of user research and how it can be used to improve online resources.
Location
Hybrid, split between working from home and in 5 Forrest Hill (EH1 2QL).
