Description

Role

The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring an undergraduate student to work this summer as a Student Spaces Data Collection and Analysis Intern. The key purpose of this role is to ensure that data about buildings and rooms on the new Spaces for Students web application is up to date, accurate, and augmented with new data that is meaningful and useful to students and improves the application. The Spaces for Students web application has built on the current University campus map that aims to provide students with information about the spaces they can use to study across campus. The application is primarily a mapping application built using Esri ArcGIS software that allows users to filter and search for specific types of study space.

Within this role, you will gain practical experience in conducting data collection, assisting in data validation and quality control, and designing data capture forms. You will join the EDINA Geospatial Consultancy team, who are responsible for providing advice and solutions for the use of geospatial data and services across the university. They support the university’s Campus Maps application and provide expertise as required to Estates, Social Responsibility and Sustainability.

You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 21st August 2026. You will work between a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office a minimum of one day per week, and travel to locations across campus to conduct fieldwork as required. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £14.30 per hour, plus £2.59 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.
