Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring an undergraduate student, to work this summer as a Digital Learning Intern. The key purpose of this role is to design and build a Microsoft SharePoint site to centralise your departments' legally required accessibility, data-protection, and service documentation. Your solution will track document creation dates and automatically notify service managers when updates are due.
Within this role, you will gain practical experience in creating a SharePoint site, implementing legislative requirements, and working effectively in a team to complete a time-bound project. You will join the Technology Enhanced Learning team in the Digital Learning, Applications and Media (DLAM) section of ISG, who are responsible for delivering and managing centrally hosted teaching, learning and assessment tools (e.g. Learn, Turnitin). The team oversee service management, supplier relationships, and user support in partnership with internal stakeholders.
You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 21st August 2026. You will work 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh) and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office on a Monday and another agreed day. You will be paid £13.55 per hour, plus £2.45 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.

Duties and responsibilities
- Designing and creating SharePoint sites which will be used to administer compliance and service documentation for the Digital Learning, Applications and Media (DLAM) section;
- Working closely with Service Managers within the team to ensure requirements are captured, and the delivery of the project is met;
- Ensuring that all relevant compliance and service documentation is hosted on the sites;
- Ensuring that all service areas within DLAM meet their legislative requirements, such as data protection and accessibility regulations;
- Bringing new and innovative ideas to the DLAM section, and following trends in SharePoint site design, including the opportunities provided by utilising AI tools such as ELM (Edinburgh Language Model).
Skills and experience
Essential criteria:
- A current University of Edinburgh undergraduate student (you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). Internships are open to all undergraduate students, except those in their final year of study;
- Based in the UK for the duration of the work, within commutable distance of Edinburgh, and able to work on campus (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
- Demonstrable creative and analytical skills which can be applied to creating and managing a complex SharePoint site;
- Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrable experience of working with the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint);
- Evidence of effective time management, with a proven ability to coordinate your own activities and workload.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience in creating and managing SharePoint, or other websites;
- Knowledge of accessibility and data protection regulations;
- Knowledge of tools and services that can be used to create automated workflows (e.g. PowerAutomate).
Location
Hybrid, split between working from home and in 5 Forrest Hill (EH1 2QL).
