Role
To work with their line manager and the wider operations team to deliver the Learn 2 Swim programme, its growth and maintenance of an excellent customer experience. The programme is a 7-day operation, with additional teaching of swimming crash courses, adult swimming lessons and 1-1 teaching. The post holder will be expected to plan, deliver and then oversee the coordination of a high-quality swimming programme delivered to children aged 3-14, teenagers 14-18 and adults 18+. This role will see the post holder teaching the lessons on a given day of the week where they will be responsible for the structure, attainment, and progress of swimmers in their groups.
Through the admin side of this role the job holder will be responsible for attending monthly training sessions and planning their individual lessons to teach.
Shifts could cover any of the following days and times;
- Monday to Wednesday 8:30am-10:45am/ 11:30am on occasion
- Monday 12pm-2:15pm
- Tuesday to Friday 12pm-1:30pm
- Tuesday and Thursday 2pm-3:15pm
- Friday 2pm-3:30pm
- Saturday and Sunday 9am-1:45pm
- Monday to Friday 4pm-7pm/ 7:30pm on occasion
Duties and responsibilities
Support Warwick Sport in the delivery of our mission and strategic objectives, including Inspiring Movement and Delivering Customer Excellence through delivery of the Learn to swim programme. Teachers will be expected to:
- Plan and lead their individual groups through a programme to lessons.
- During the sessions they will be responsible for the health and safety and general wellbeing of those participants in the lessons.
- To act as the main point of contact for existing and potential customers for the Learn to Swim scheme.
- Ensure compliance to existing GDPR policy and procedure designed to ensure security of data held on users.
- Utilise existing systems and software to ensure swimmer and parent / guardian information is up to date and available to staff where appropriate.
- Promote the use of the parental access (Home Portal) with all parents/ guardians.
- Continuously seek and monitor customer and any wider feedback to make recommendations for the further improvement of the experience of customers on the scheme or across Warwick Sport.
- Responsible for communicating with parents/ guardians of swimmers after/ before swimming lessons for feedback as and when required. This may be verbal communication or through the updating of a swimmers progress on the Home Portal.
LEAD AND DEVELOP OTHERS MEMBES OF STAFF BY
- Taking responsibility for and helping to develop any swim teaching assistants working on the programme
- Act as a mentor to other teachers on the scheme; observations and feedback to new staff members
SWIMMING PROGRAMME
- Plan a swimming programme appropriate to the age and ability of a group of swimmers following the Swim England National Plan
- Provide lesson plans for use in own lessons as well as cover teaching staff.
- Contribute to a wider scheme of work for the swim scheme.
CONTRIBUTE TO TEAM SET UP AND ORGANISATION:
- Set up and pack down as per needs of the staffing rota (10 minutes for every 3 hours work).
- Work with the Operations team to ensure a safe environment is established throughout swimming lessons.
- Take responsibility for setting up and updating tablets.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
- Acting as a swimming co-ordinator where needed.
- Attend regular staff training.
- Delivery of staff training as and when appropriate (once every two months).
- Any other tasks as requested by the Swim Co-ordinators or Aquatics Manager (Rota changes)
Skills and experience
- Swim England Level 2 Teaching or STA Level 2 Certificate
- NPLQ or NARATSC qualification or willingness to train for this
- Relevant safeguarding qualification
- Some experience of working with children in a learning environment
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- An understanding of equality and diversity
- Punctual and able to work using own initiative
- Knowledge of technology to assess swimmers on tablets
- Ability to demonstrate organizational skills
- Ability to plan a series of lessons for a group of children
- Knowledge of the Swim England Assessment criteria
- Knowledge of safeguarding
- If a candidate is interested in work during the hours of 8:30am-4pm this would involve teaching adults and/ or preschool classes therefore an additional qualification in one of these areas would be preferred (please note on your CV or cover letter if you hold additional qualifications)
- A DBS is required for this role. If you do not hold a current DBS, Unitemps can facilitate one
