Description

Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) are hiring an undergraduate student to work this summer as an Information and Data Literacy Intern. The key purpose of this role is to plan, design and deliver meaningful public engagement activities, to promote and allow better use of the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft database, and preserve the stories of accused witches. This database is a reference tool used by community groups, pupils, teachers, local historians, researchers, writers and artists who seek to discover more about the accused witches of Scotland, and the times in which they lived.

Within this role, you will gain practical experience in designing and delivering data skills training events, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, and organising community events/public engagement activities. You will join the Digital Skills, Design and Training (DSDT) team, who are responsible for providing digital skills training, Open Educational Resources, graphic design, and professional development programmes to staff and students within the University. You will also be working within a project team, comprised of colleagues from different parts of the University.

You can expect to start work on the 1st June 2026 and work until the 21st August 2026. You will work between a minimum of 21 to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh) and in Forrest Hill. You will be required to attend the office a minimum of two days per week. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £13.55 per hour, plus £2.45 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2026.
