Description

Role

The Technical Instructor for Media & Music provides specialist technical support, training, and demonstrator-led instruction to students across Media, Music, Sound Production, and related creative disciplines. The role ensures safe, effective, and innovative use of DMU’s studios, specialist equipment, software, and production facilities.

We are looking for someone to work on campus, variable hours (to be discussed), the role will start w/c 23/02/2026 and expected end date is 29/05/2026.

This role would be suitable for post graduate students

Duties and responsibilities

Instruction & Student Support

• Deliver technical instruction, workshops, and demonstrations in audio recording, music production, studio workflows, media production, and industry-standard software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Adobe Creative Cloud, and DaVinci Resolve.

• Support students with practical queries during open-access and supervised studio sessions.

• Provide one-to-one guidance for project work and assessed practical modules.

Technical Operation & Facility Management

• Maintain and operate recording studios, TV/broadcast studios, edit suites, rehearsal rooms, and live sound spaces.

• Manage equipment loans and ensure resources are well-maintained and accessible.

• Monitor and enforce safe working practices in compliance with DMU Health & Safety regulations.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with academic staff to meet teaching objectives.

• Liaise with Technical Services, Estates, and IT for facility coordination.

Professional Practice & Continuous Improvement

• Stay up to date with trends in media and music technologies.

• Contribute to team meetings and cross-Faculty initiatives.

• Support an inclusive, student-centred environment aligned with DMU values.

Skills and experience

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience in music production, audio engineering, or media production.

• Strong knowledge of industry-standard hardware and software.

• Ability to deliver technical instruction in professional or educational settings.

• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

• Excellent organisational skills and commitment to student support.

Desirable

• Experience working in FE/HE.

• Knowledge of pedagogical approaches.

• Experience supporting curriculum delivery.

• Competence in live sound engineering or broadcast workflows.
