Role

We are recruiting a temporary Youth Empowerment Coordinator to provide short-term cover (initially 8 weeks) and additional capacity within our Uni Connect delivery team.

Uni Connect is a national collaborative outreach programme that supports young people from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education to explore post-16 and post-18 pathways, including university. At the University of Warwick, ThinkHigher are the Coventry and Warwickshire Uni Connect team we work closely with schools and colleges to design and deliver engaging, student-centred activity for secondary-age learners.

This is a delivery-focused, temporary role supporting the Uni Connect team during a period of increased demand and short staffing. We are looking for someone who can step in quickly and confidently, taking on responsibility for session design and delivery with minimal lead-in time and feel happy going into schools to deliver on one of our existing projects, BLCK Space, alongside a handful of student ambassadors specific to this project.

The postholder will support the continuation of planned outreach activity and help ensure a high-quality experience for young people engaging with the programme.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design, adapt and deliver engaging outreach sessions for secondary-age students. Specifically for two of our existing projects, BLCK Space and our Year 10 Careers Roadshow.
  • Confidently deliver sessions in schools and colleges and be able to tailor sessions to the needs of the young people.
  • Liaise with school staff to support the coordination and smooth running of planned activity
  • Ensure all sessions are inclusive, age-appropriate and aligned with widening participation aims
  • Work closely with the Uni Connect team to respond flexibly to delivery needs

Skills and experience

This role will require an enhanced DBS with child barring.

Experience

  • Experience of working with secondary school–aged young people in an educational, outreach, youth work or mentoring setting
  • Experience of delivering sessions or workshops to groups of young people, ideally in schools or colleges
  • Ability to step into delivery quickly, working with minimal lead-in time or training
  • Experience of adapting content to suit different ages, abilities and engagement levels

Skills

  • Confident and engaging presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and school staff
  • Good organisational skills, including the ability to manage session materials and content
  • Adaptability and flexibility, responding positively to changing delivery needs
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Hybrid – From home, on campus and in schools
