Role

The Enterprise Student Ambassador (ESA) role supports the promotion and delivery of enterprise activity across Heriot-Watt University, working as part of the GRID (Global Research, Innovation & Discovery) enterprise team. ESAs are not assigned to individual Schools or Departments; instead, they work collaboratively across the wider University to raise awareness of enterprise opportunities, engage students and staff, and codesign student-led Enterprise Ambassador events for the HWU community. The role strengthens the University's entrepreneurial culture through outreach, communication, and close collaboration with the Enterprise Executive and fellow ambassadors.

The role holder will work up to 10 hours per week.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Promote GRID's enterprise services and opportunities across the wider Heriot-Watt University community.
  • Engage proactively with students and staff to raise awareness of enterprise programmes, events, and support available.
  • Co-design and deliver student-led Enterprise Ambassador events in collaboration with fellow ambassadors and the Enterprise Executive.
  • Organise and participate in outreach activities, including open days, lecture shout-outs, and wider engagement events.
  • Support the delivery of enterprise initiatives, workshops, and campaigns across campus.
  • Gather insights and feedback from students to help improve enterprise engagement and inform future activity.
  • Represent GRID professionally at events, meetings, and student-facing activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Enterprise Executive and ambassador team to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated outreach.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Enterprise Executive on activity, progress, and engagement outcomes.

Skills and experience

  • Must have legal authorisation to undertake part-time work in the UK (e.g., compliant with student visa conditions or other right to work status).
  • Must be a currently enrolled Heriot-Watt University student for the duration of the role.
  • Must complete any mandatory University training relevant to student employment (e.g., safeguarding, data protection, or role specific compliance training).
  • No formal qualifications are legally required beyond active enrolment, but the role expects a good understanding of the University environment and student community.
  • Experience in student engagement, public speaking, teamwork, or event support is beneficial but not mandatory.
