Role
Duties and responsibilities
• Deliver activities as part of the Academic Success team to advance learning development and target interventions at key points in the student lifecycle to improve student engagement and attainment.
• Collaborate with Academic Success Tutors and other relevant staff teams on development of practices that enhance students’ use of statistical software and data analysis practices.
• Assist with the delivery of teaching and one-to-one support by providing clear information and guidance to students in line with material set by the Academic Success Tutors.
• Contribute to the delivery of face-to-face and online learning development sessions in a variety of forms (drop-ins, themed learning events, tutorials etc.).
• Provide effective individual and small group learning support for students to supplement the Academic Success Teaching and one-to-one support programme.
• Facilitate discussions with students to help make sense of their learning within the context of data management and statistical analysis.
• Provide proactive support to students to help them overcome any problems they encounter in applying knowledge or practice, encouraging students to reflect critically and find solutions.
• Assist with the development of learning and teaching materials in a range of formats, paying particular attention to opportunities for technology enhanced learning.
• Assist with the organisation of events related to learning development provision.
• Respond to student enquiries via email and Canvas, and direct students to appropriate learning resources where appropriate.
• Refer students with more complex problems to members of the Academic Success Team or wider university support.
• Collect appropriate quantitative and qualitative data as agreed by the Academic Success Manager.
• Participate in activities related to learning development provision outside normal office hours as required.

Skills and experience
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent in professional-level training and experience) in a relevant subject.
- Currently registered as a postgraduate student registered at Liverpool John Moores University.
- Able to demonstrate commitment to continuous personal and professional development in relevant areas and to the application of that learning.
- Knowledge of conventions and practice relating to statistical software (e.g. SPSS or R) and data analysis.
- Experience of supporting or facilitating learning and academic skills development relating to statistical software and data analysis within a higher education environment or similar.
- Experience of delivering student support or training using technologies such as a virtual learning environment.
- Knowledge of HE teaching and learning methods and of current best practice in learning or skills development in HE.
- Knowledge of effective study strategies aligned to university-level study.
- Excellent IT skills and knowledge of Technology Enhanced Learning.
- Ability to utilise and demonstrate teaching materials in a range of formats and contexts.
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team and maintain productive working relationships.
- Ability to recognise students experiencing elevated levels of stress and refer appropriately.
- A good understanding of the challenges and barriers to learning, that can impact students’ attainment and progression. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time-management skills, with an ability to multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure.
- A flexible approach, willing and able to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Commitment to the provision of high-quality services.
- Willing to undertake regular relevant training as required.
Desirable Factors
- Postgraduate-level teaching qualification and/or fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
- Recognised Advice and Guidance qualification (e.g. NVQ) Certificate
- Experience of working with students from groups currently under-represented in Higher Education.
- Experience of supporting and working with students at university level, either in one-to-one or group contexts.
