Role
The Holiday Scheme at the University of Warwick offers an inspiring range of educational, cultural and sporting activities to challenge, entertain and enthuse children using the fantastic resources available on campus; developing the children's knowledge and skills while enabling them to make friends and have plenty of fun.
We are currently seeking responsible and enthusiastic Scheme Leaders who are passionate about working with children. Scheme Leaders are primarily responsible for facilitating children to ensure they are supported and safe at all times. The role requires participating and often delivering activities during periods of the day when no external providers are leading sessions. Another significant part of the role requires working effectively to support other members of the team: Holiday Scheme Manager and Holiday Scheme Coordinator.
We are looking for staff that are available for multiple Schemes especially the longer programmes, Easter and summer. Please see the dates listed below:
- February 2026- Monday 16th February until Friday 20th February
- Easter 2026- Monday 30th March until Thursday 2nd April and Tuesday 7th April until Friday 10th April 2026
- May 2026- Tuesday 26th May until Friday 29th May
- Summer 2026- Tuesday 21st July until Friday 28th August
A good availability is essential (3 days per week) and opportunities to work during all school holidays are also available
Duties and responsibilities
- Meet and greeting children attending at the beginning of each day, provide information about the days’ activities and registering children as they arrive;
- Organising children into groups to attend activities, escorting children to activities quickly and safely;
- Encouraging children to participate by joining in yourself and being a good role model;
- Developing, delivering and participating in suitable activities in partnership with other Scheme Leaders and with the guidance and support of the Holiday Scheme Manager, Deputy Manager and the Education and Welfare Officer;
- Providing activities and supervising children while awaiting collection;
- Tidying spaces and leaving in a suitable condition at the end of a session or end of the day;
- Reporting any concerns about specific children or other members of staff to the Head of Children’s Services, Holiday Scheme Education and Welfare Officer, Holiday Scheme Manager or Deputy manager;
- Be mindful of the cultural diversity and physical abilities of the children so that they are able to participate fully in the activities provided;
- Be compliant with Covid Safe Practice guidance and undergo training.
Skills and experience
- Ability to communicate and interact with children aged 5 – 11 years
- Ability to use initiative and problem solve
- Ability to be self- motivated and to motivate others
- Ability to be empathic to the needs of children age 5 – 11 years
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to achieve a DBS clearance (this will be facilitated by Unitemps)
- Ability to deal calmly and effectively in difficult and challenging situations with children and adults
- Particular competency in an area which could be utilised in order to act as a session leader for one or more sessions
