THE ROLE
The Faculty Health & Safety Co-ordinator will work with the Director of Faculty Operations, Faculty Operations Manager, Safety & Facilities Manager, Technical Services Manager and Safety Co-ordinators to provide specialist support to the Faculty to ensure full compliance with all University Health & Safety policies and procedures and to ensure that all Health & Safety organisation and support for Faculty activities and events is undertaken.
The role is working on campus - Monday - Friday working 37 hours per week. The intended start date will be 26/01/2026 with an expected end date of 31/07/2026.
Duties and responsibilities

Provide Health & Safety (H&S) support to the Faculty, ensuring compliance with legislation and University policy.

Advise and support staff and students on health, safety and wellbeing matters.

Support senior Faculty managers and Safety Co-ordinators on all H&S issues.

Coordinate H&S documentation, including risk assessments, monitoring pads, accident reports and records.

Maintain the Faculty Statement of Safety Organisation (SOSO) and produce management reports.

Organise workstation assessments and liaise with line managers, DMU H&S and external suppliers.

Coordinate emergency evacuation arrangements and documentation.

Conduct regular H&S inspections and ensure issues are reported and resolved.

Act as servicing officer to the Faculty Health & Safety Committee and sub-committees, preparing papers and tracking actions.

Prepare and circulate H&S guidance and maintain noticeboards and intranet content.

Coordinate H&S training, liaise with the DMU H&S team and act as Faculty iHASCO administrator.

Support H&S inductions for new starters.

Support Occupational Health and Access to Work processes, ensuring recommendations are implemented.

Support Faculty space planning and physical resources strategy, including audits of space usage and occupancy.

Ensure H&S compliance for Faculty and cross-Faculty events, including occasional evening or weekend working.

Act as a trained First Aider and maintain first aid provision.

Ensure compliance with records management, data protection, equality and sustainability requirements.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.
Skills and experience

Five GCSEs Grade C or above, including English & Maths (or equivalent)

Educated to A level standard or equivalent

Health & Safety qualification (e.g. First Aid at Work / Risk Assessors) or willingness to undertake training
- Significant previous experience of working in a similar role
- Experience of servicing high level business meetings/committees
- Experience of working with senior members of staff in a busy operation environment
- Experience of collating information and presenting data analysis in a clear and concise format
- Excellent word processing skills
- Experience of using various Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and work in a team environment
- Must be able to work under own initiative and undertake tasks unsupervised
- Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and work within prescribed timescales, budgets and deadlines
- Knowledge of how to risk assess activities, processes or situations, identify hazards and recommend controls
- Ability to impart knowledge to staff and students
- Understand importance of confidentiality and sensitivity
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Willingness to undertake health and safety training
- Willingness to work occasional out of office hours (e.g. evenings and weekends)
