Role
An enthusiastic individual is sought to provide frontline finance support for WMG by assisting the Finance team in the financial control of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult funded Research. The successful candidate will ensure that all funding is managed within budget and in accordance with funder’s rules in a way that facilitates and maximises research activities and outputs.
This is a diverse and challenging role providing advice and guidance on funder rules and financial procedures. The ability to follow detailed procedures and controls and excellent IT skills (in particular Excel and the ability to use accounting software) is essential for the role. Previous experience in higher education and/or a research support role is desirable and experience of using SAP would be advantageous
Duties and responsibilities
- To support the Catapult Finance team with the preparation and submission of the monthly claim with tasks involving managing the non-pay elements of the claim and ensuring funder rules are followed and the correct audit evidence is maintained.
- To support the Catapult Finance team raising and posting journals relating to pay and non pay transactions; running reports on SAP; using excel skills to analyse the data and prepare reports
- To undertake salary reconciliations to calculate the costs of staff time on individual projects, according to timesheets submitted, and to prepare salary journals to transfer costs.
- To provide advice and assistance to non-accounting staff about financial aspects of administration and funder requirements.
- Working with Finance Manager and Management Accountant to ensure that claims submitted to funders are complete and accurate and to investigate where spend is ahead of / behind schedule, taking action as required.
- Undertake ad hoc tasks commensurate with the role as directed by the Finance Team.
Skills and experience
- GCSE’s including English and Maths grades A-C or equivalent
- Possess, or studying towards a relevant accounting qualification such as AAT Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Accounting
- The ability to follow detailed procedures and controls
- A high level of computer literacy especially Excel (pivot tables and Power Query)
- The ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate appropriately with a range of audiences
- The ability to work to a high standard of accuracy
- Strong organisational skills
- Experience using SAP / Financial accounting software
