Description

Role

The University of Leicester is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Alumni Relations Assistant to join its Advancement Office and support engagement with the University’s global alumni community. With more than 200,000 alumni worldwide, the University places strong emphasis on maintaining meaningful, lifelong relationships with its graduates, celebrating their achievements and encouraging continued involvement in University life. This role will contribute to the delivery of engaging, high-quality communications that support alumni relations, fundraising and stewardship activity, working closely with colleagues across the Advancement Office and wider University.

Reporting to the Senior Alumni Relations Manager, you will play a key role in developing and delivering alumni communications across a range of digital channels, particularly social media and email, ensuring that messaging is inclusive, engaging and aligned with the University’s strategic priorities. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that supports the University of Leicester’s mission to be a diverse, inclusive and globally connected institution.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for producing regular analysis, reports and documentation relating to alumni communications activity, including the completion of monthly reports that assess performance, identify strengths and weaknesses and inform future communications strategy. You will use Raisers’ Edge NXT to accurately record alumni engagement and produce analytical reports that support evidence-based decision-making.

The role will involve the development and delivery of alumni communications across multiple platforms. This includes managing alumni social media channels with a strong focus on community management and creative content creation for a diverse alumni audience, as well as preparing and sending a range of communications such as emails, newsletters and event messaging. The postholder will support the development of communications plans for key alumni events throughout the year, including flagship activities such as the Alumni Awards Dinner, working with University colleagues and alumni to source and create engaging content.

Working closely with the Senior Alumni Relations Manager and Alumni Relations Officers, you will help develop a communications toolkit for Alumni Chapters and support the implementation of a coordinated approach to chapter communications through central alumni channels. They will also collaborate with the Senior Alumni Relations Manager and Donor Relations Manager to support an alumni giving communications plan that encourages participation in the University’s 2121 Founders of the Future Campaign.

The role will require attendance at alumni events, both on and off campus, to support the Advancement Office and ensure timely and effective communications coverage, including social media activity. You will maintain the Advancement Office communications planner to ensure colleagues are informed of current and upcoming activity and will support the management of shared alumni inboxes.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the University, including professional services, colleges, departments and schools, to encourage a coordinated and strategic approach to alumni engagement, donor relations and volunteer stewardship. They will actively participate in team meetings, build positive working relationships across departments and represent the University at Advancement events, including occasional evening and weekend commitments.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will have experience working in a communications or engagement environment, ideally with responsibility for managing social media channels. You will demonstrate strong knowledge of key platforms, particularly Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, and an understanding of how to engage diverse audiences through digital content. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to communicate clearly, persuasively and accurately with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The role requires strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines and work independently with initiative. A good level of practical IT skills is required, including confidence using Microsoft Office applications, along with the confidence to contribute effectively in both one-to-one and group settings.
