Description

Role

The Research Assistant will support a large-scale research project examining intergenerational career dynamics in science. The role includes tasks across data collection, online research, biographical verification, dataset cleaning, and disambiguation of individuals across multiple data sources (AMWS, Scopus, Revelio Labs, LinkedIn). The RA will help build a validated dataset on scientists’ children and support the preparation of primary data collection (e.g., CV gathering, profile identification, etc.)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct online research to identify CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and biographical records of scientists’ children.
  • Disambiguate individuals across datasets, specifically in Scopus (e.g., matching identical names to the correct person using context clues such as field, location, age, employment history).
  • Assist in identifying missing individuals and retrieving additional background information needed for accurate matching.
  • Support primary data collection preparation (e.g., compiling contact lists, identifying potential interview/survey participants).
  • Maintain organised documentation of coding decisions, sources, and verification steps.

Skills and experience

  1. Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow systematic research protocols.
  2. Strong online research skills, especially in identifying individuals across fragmented digital sources.
  3. Experience with Excel, CSV files, or other data-management tools.
  4. Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  5. Familiarity with bibliometric databases (e.g., Scopus) or labour-market datasets is an advantage but not required.
  6. Interest in research on careers, inequality, sociology of science, or innovation (preferred).
  7. Clear written communication skills for documenting coding procedures.

Location
Remote (working from home).
