Role
We are seeking a proactive and flexible Course Administration Assistant to join our team supporting undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes at the University of Leicester. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within an administrative team to ensure smooth and efficient support for course delivery from enquiry through to graduation, reflecting the University’s commitment to inspiring education and student success.

The postholder will be a key point of contact for students, academic staff, and external stakeholders, providing timely and accurate administrative support in a friendly and inclusive environment aligned with the University’s values of inclusivity and impact.

Duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the administration of taught degree programmes, handling tasks such as processing coursework submissions, entering marks, maintaining both electronic and paper student records, and updating information on Blackboard. You will take direction from academic staff and contribute to locally agreed priorities, ensuring administrative consistency and high standards of service.

Alongside core programme support, your duties will include a range of general office responsibilities, such as ordering supplies, assisting with invoice and expense processing for tutors, maintaining equipment supplies, coordinating AV and event arrangements, managing mail distribution and notice boards, and reporting maintenance issues. You will respond effectively to enquiries from current and prospective students, offering guidance on processes and procedures and liaising with academic and professional services across the University, including Student and Academic Services, IT Services, Finance, and other support teams.

In addition, you will assist with admissions activities, offer holder events and open days, which may involve occasional weekend work. You will also support the arrangement of meetings for senior academic and administrative staff by booking rooms, AV facilities and catering as required, contributing to the smooth operation of School activities.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have experience of accurate data input and record-keeping and demonstrable experience working as an administrator in a busy environment, underpinned by excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office. A level of education equivalent to GCSE standard is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills are required to engage effectively with staff and students, together with excellent attention to detail and organisational and clerical capabilities.

You will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating independence and initiative in your work. A willingness to be flexible in duties and adapt to changing priorities is essential in order to maintain a high quality of service, reflecting the University’s emphasis on student-centred support and service excellence.

Experience of working in higher education and qualifications such as RSA Word Processing or ECDL are desirable but not essential.
