Description
Role
The Student Lead is a key role within the UON’s University Mental Health Charter (UMHC) Award Project Group. The Student Lead is responsible for writing and coordinating the submission of a Student-Led Report, that is submitted alongside the Project Team’s Self-Assessment report.
This is an opportunity for students to provide the Assessment Team with their perspective on the university’s progress towards the Principles of Good Practice and highlight any areas of excellent practice or areas for improvement that they would like the Assessment Team to acknowledge. 
Duties and responsibilities
- Complete the Student-Led Assessment tool. This requires the postholder to:
- Reflect on how UON supports student mental health
- Look at what UON does well and what needs more work
- Make recommendations to the Project Team for improvement
- Coordinate & write up the Student Submission; a document that represents the experiences of students in relation to the Principles of Good Practice. This needs to happen in May 2026. Submission dates 1 June 2026. The Student-Led Report should be no more than 2,000 words. Any statements should be supported by evidence from feedback, insights, and data from the wider student population.
- Rewrite any amends given by the Award Lead or Alice Wilby, Pro-Vice Chancellor – to be done in between 24 July – 7 August 2026.
- Work with the Award Lead to coordinate student engagement in the Self-Assessment and the on-site visit.
- Ensure the activity of the Students’ Union is represented within the submission.
- Ensure the wider student population have a good understanding of the outcome of the Assessment and that recommendations lead to improvements in practice.
- Attend the Universities Mental Health Day event, covering a stand for the UMHC and talking to students about the work.
- Help organise and attend Student Focus Groups.
- Help organise and attend data gathering events.
- Attend monthly 30-minute progress meetings and update the team on actions completed. Timings tbc.
- Attend monthly UMHC Meetings and update the team on actions completed.

- Meet with the Student Minds Assessment team on their onsite visit and take part in their student focus group. This will be the W/c 23 November and it is essential you are free for this visit. It takes place over 2 days within that week; confirmation of the exact two days is yet to be communicated with us.
Skills and experience
Essential:
· A current student at the University of Northampton.
· Confident in holding conversations and giving information about the University
· Proactive, feel comfortable working independently and be able to use initiative to complete tasks.
· Able to work as part of an effective team.
· Excellent communication skills (including English speaking skills) which can be adapted to suit a range of audiences including students, staff and external visitors.
· Excellent time keeping and organisational skills.
· Understand and be able to communicate the Universities commitments to Wellbeing.

Additional information
This role offers a total of 50 hours across the length of the project. The rate of pay is £13.45 per hour + £1.96 per hour holiday pay.
- 14.5 hours for meetings
- 17 hours for writing report and rewrites
- 15.5 hours for events and data gathering
- 3 hours for additional tasks
