Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Surveillance Administrator within the Population, Policy & Practice department. The role is to work the date of 19th January 2026 and will run until 28th August 2026 part time at 22 hours per week . Payment is set at £16.76 + holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual for a position as a Surveillance Administrator joining a small team running a national maternity and paediatric infections surveillance service for NHS England based in UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.
 
The Integrated Screening Outcomes Surveillance Service (ISOSS) and the Children’s HIV and AIDS Reporting System (CHARS) collect data on all children born in England to women living with HIV and all children diagnosed with HIV seen for paediatric care. Surveillance is carried out in order to support NHS commissioning, national guidelines and quality of care indicators.
 
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be highly organised and pro-active, hardworking and able to prioritise workloads. The post holder will be expected to work pro-actively and to problem solve as part of a team or on an individual basis and previous administrative experience is beneficial.
 

Duties and responsibilities

Surveillance responsibilities are shared within the team, but the post holder will be expected to have an overview of the hepatitis B data collection. Surveillance administration and processes relating to the hepatitis B maternity data collection include:

  • Actively process incoming case reports of hepatitis B screen positive pregnancies and their infants using the secure online portal
  • Undertake data cleaning, checking and monitoring data quality for these reports, including liaising with NHS clinical respondents across England by phone and email to resolve any data queries and provide support with online reporting- Support Key Performance Indicators and Standards reporting of hepatitis B for NHS England
  • Track status of hepatitis B reports and data queries using the team’s task management system
  • Identify and track any units experiencing reporting issues and liaise with Surveillance Coordinator where escalation is required- Develop and maintain an appropriate level of knowledge of hepatitis B in pregnancy and its management (i.e. to facilitate data queries and management)
  • Contribute to the communication of the surveillance activities via the ISOSS website/social media and newsletter
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of reports and other surveillance outputs
  • The post holder will be expected to carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post. 
  • This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

Skills and experience

  • A good honours degree (2.1 or above) in a relevant area, ideally in health-related subject
  • Experience in an administrative or clerical role
  • Experience in managing a digital filing system
  • Experience involving large clinical datasets
  • Organised, accurate, attentive to detail
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a lively team and also on own initiative
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders and partners
  • Friendly, professional phone manner and ability to write clearly and accurately
  • Ability to plan workload, balance conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
  • A commitment to high quality service delivery in a “customer”-focused environment
  • Awareness of /training in data protection, information governance and information security issues; experience dealing with confidential information
  • Experience with data management software, e.g. SQL, Redcap
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal/Silva
  • An interest in maternal and child health
