The School of Public and Allied Health are offering our second- and third-year undergraduate, and master’s level students the opportunity to apply for a paid Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) Internship that will enhance your knowledge, employability skills and career insight. You will be paid for the internship, which can be completed part-time alongside your studies.

Internship aim and objectives:

The internship aims to enhance student experience though providing opportunities to engage in RKE and enhance academic progression and future employment prospects. 

Objectives include: 

• To build student expertise and experience in relation to RKE.

• To enhance student knowledge on a public health approach to preventing violence and health risk behaviours with a particular focus on multi-agency interventions to support children and young people experiencing extra-familial harm. 

• To enhance student experience, academic progression and future employment prospects.

Duties and responsibilities
Interns will work within the Violence, Peace and Health Risk Behaviours RKE team to gain hands-on experience of RKE through a paid flexible internship working with a research fellow. 

In particular, this internship will involve:
• analysing secondary qualitative data collected by the research fellow on a range of topics to understand how young people who are experiencing or at risk of extra-familial harm build trusting relationships with their support workers,• Through the role you will learn to analyse qualitative data using Nvivo analysis software, 
• and support the research fellow in the development of a framework from the findings,
• and prepare them for publication.
 
Internships are an opportunity for you to:
• Gain invaluable RKE skills and experience including the collection, cleaning and analyses of quantitative and/or qualitative data; conducting literature reviews; output production; and set up and delivery of RKE events.
• Enhance your knowledge of a public health approach to preventing violence and health risk behaviours through engagement in informal training and events within and external to LJMU. 
• Test out your RKE ideas and discover if this is the type of work you want to pursue in future.
• Have examples/evidence to reference on future application forms and during interviews and show your commitment and enthusiasm to any future employer.

Skills and experience
To apply for this internship, you must be a current second year undergraduate, third year undergraduate or taught Masters student within the School of Public and Allied Health. An interest in children and young people’s health, the public health impacts of violence and extra-familial harm and qualitative research are desirable. You will be given training to support you in developing your research skills, but an interest in qualitative analysis and writing will be helpful.
