Description
Role
**ringfenced to Masters, Postgraduate and level 6 UG LJMU students if they have scriptwriting experience. This is a short project, so experience is important**
The Project Playwright will be responsible for creating original scripts that resonate with and reflect the experiences of the above categories of individuals who are interested or have sought generative AI advice for mental health issues.
This role requires a blend of artistic vision, research skills, and a strong collaborative spirit to engage with diverse community members throughout the creative process.
Duties and responsibilities
Key Responsibilities-
Script Creation and Development:
Conceive, research, write, and revise original scripts that explore themes relevant to the project working to specific briefs and deadlines.
Develop compelling characters and authentic dialogue that captures the essence of how participants speak and interact.
Adapt existing stories as required by the project's needs.
Community Engagement and Collaboration:
Conduct interviews, workshops, and story-gathering sessions to collect mental health narratives and ensure authentic representation in the work.
Actively solicit and incorporate feedback from community stakeholders, participants, and project team throughout the writing and revision process.
Collaborate as required with directors, actors and other production team members to bring the script to life, providing guidance on character motivation and artistic vision.
Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants, from experienced academics to first-time contributors.
Production Support:
Where required, to attend rehearsals, readings, and workshops to observe the execution of the work and make real-time script adjustments as necessary.
Liaise with the project team to ensure the script's feasibility and impact on stage.
Attend two day workshop in May 2026 and help with preparation of workshop.
Gather information from stakeholders on the demand of the manuscripts.
Administration and Advocacy:
Manage project timelines and deliverables, meeting deadlines.
Skills and experience
Required Qualifications and Skills
Experience:
Proven experience in playwriting with a portfolio of original written work, preferably with produced plays or staged readings.
Experience working in a collaborative environment and facilitating workshops or group discussions.
A deep understanding of dramatic structure, character development, and the unique demands of live theatre.
Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen ear for natural dialogue.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and relationships within diverse community groups.
Adaptability, open-mindedness, and a willingness to accept and incorporate constructive criticism and feedback.
Strong research and observation skills to ensure cultural sensitivity and accuracy in the work.
Proficiency in scriptwriting software.
