Description

Role
The primary focus of the role will be on supporting the City Ventures team and the Venture Space workspace on strategic planning and supporting our members. Additionally, the role will contribute towards the wider City Ventures team goals and objectives.

Duties and responsibilities

Mentor & Investor Community Management

• Network with potential mentors and investors to grow the pool of experience and diversity to serve the needs of the City Venture Space residents.

• Develop and maintain mentor communications through quarterly newsletters and a microsite to share member updates and investment opportunities.

• Develop and maintain mentor and member induction materials and guidance to the Venture Space mentoring process and expectations.

• Regularly create and compile feedback on the mentoring process.

Event Creation and Management

• Develop and deliver a range of networking events to grow potential mentors and investors. These may include pitch practice events, skill/experience auctions, themed roundtable discussions.

• Support management of workshops and offer 1:1 advice to members of the Venture Space accelerator programme.

• Manage resources and equipment required for events, including tracking expenses for planned events to provide staff, speakers, catering, and/or specialist equipment.

Operational Management

• Work with the Operations Manager to review and support processes for all Venture Space programmes and initiatives.

• Ensure the maintenance and review of Venture Space information and documents pertaining to existing and potential new members, including house rules and terms and conditions.

• Oversee members’ registration process on SITS and enable printing credits and facilities for all members.

• Generate and log POs for external speakers and suppliers.

• Support the Operations Manager to coordinate impact reports for Venture Space.

• Oversee general office management of the physical space including management of contractors, ordering stationery, and ensuring daily essentials required in the space.

Marketing and Promotion

• Develop and lead on creating a marketing strategy to promote members, mentors, and the programme across email and social media channels working with the Marketing Office.

• Create and maintain appropriate content and resources on the City Venture Space microsite.

• Collaborate with the University’s marketing and press teams.

• Support updates and development of a Venture Space website to improve promotion of the Venture Space members and activities.

Business Development

• Work closely with the Development and Alumni Relations Team to share opportunities for donations, mentoring, and new members.

• Host City Venture Space open days to attract prospective members.

Governance

• Work with the Operations Manager to implement the correct health and safety requirements to meet legislation and policies at the University.

• Work with the Operations Manager to design evaluation processes to assess the skills and experience of new members and track their progress.

• Support the organisation of the City Ventures Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity committee.

Skills and experience

Qualifications & Knowledge

• Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience

• A good understanding of startup incubation support and the needs of startups and early-stage companies

• A good working knowledge of community management for spaces and programmes (e.g., coworking spaces or accelerator programmes)

• Knowledge of the support and requirements of startups and SMEs

Experience

• Experience of office administration with strong organisational skills

• Proven experience in project management, preferably within a business incubator/accelerator or similar

• Proven experience of marketing and promotional activities across digital, social media and other channels

• Previous experience of event organisation

• Experience of working to tight deadlines and continually reviewing/managing priorities

• Good networking skills and ability to build and nurture communities and opportunities

• Experience developing, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures and standards

• Previous experience supporting programmes to develop entrepreneurs (e.g., accelerator programmes, mentoring, demo days)

Skills & Abilities

• Effective organisational and planning skills with ability to initiate, manage and complete projects on time and within scope

• Ability to provide excellent customer service

• Proactive self-starter with an entrepreneurial ‘can-do’ attitude

• Good understanding and practical knowledge of social media marketing (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)

• Ability to create engaging copy and content for marketing and promotional purposes

• Excellent IT skills, particularly MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to interact daily with student and graduate entrepreneurs and regularly with senior stakeholders

• Confidence to represent and promote the Venture Space (formerly Launch Lab) both internally and externally
