Role
*Ringfenced to Current LJMU undergraduate or postgraduate taught students*Work alongside academic staff in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences to investigate how AI is transforming the student learning experience.

Duties and responsibilities

Purpose: To contribute to a qualitative research project exploring student perspectives on AI use in learning, examining both the opportunities and challenges AI presents for intellectually stimulating university education.

Main Duties:

Participate in project planning meetings and contribute ideas for research design.

Support recruitment of student participants for focus groups or interviews.

Conduct or assist with focus groups/interviews exploring peer experiences with AI tools in their studies.

Help analyse qualitative data (interview transcripts, student narratives) to identify key themes.

Contribute to identifying what constitutes meaningful vs. surface-level engagement with AI in learning.

Assist in developing practical recommendations for teaching practices.

Support the preparation of a final project report for publication on the TLA website.

Maintain accurate records of hours worked via weekly timesheets.

Working arrangements: Work can be undertaken flexibly from home or on campus, with regular supervision and support from the project team. Hours will be agreed to fit around your academic timetable (maximum 7 hours per week during teaching periods).

This is an internship and as such should be seen as an education and career development opportunity, carried out under the strict guidance of LJMU staff. 

Skills and experience

Person Specification

Essential:

Current LJMU undergraduate or postgraduate taught student.

Some experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) in your studies.

Willingness to reflect on and discuss your learning experiences.

Good communication skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Reliable and able to manage your time effectively. 

Desirable:

Interest in how technology shapes education.

Any experience with or curiosity about research methods.

Students from Sport Sciences, Nutrition, or related programmes (though all students welcome to apply).
