Role
As a Lab Tech/Protein Scientist you will be a critical part of our technical bioprocessing team, helping to produce alternative milk proteins. You’ll support both upstream (cloning, strain selection) fermentation and downstream (protein extraction and purification) in a fast-paced, innovation-driven lab environment. 

 
MilaK is a purpose-led start-up using biotechnology to fuel nutrition. We’re looking for a Protein Scientist that is well-experienced and knowledgeable in synthetic biology and recombinant protein production and excited to join a team innovating nutrition.

Skills and experience
Your background: · 

  • BSc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry
  • PhD in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology (advantageous)
  • 1 year of applied research experience in precision fermentation, synthetic biology, or bioproduction.
  • Microbial culturing, media preparation, and aseptic technique.
  • Creating genetically engineered strains (PCR, Cloning, Transformations) 
  • Experience working in precision fermentation and protein production.
  • Familiarity with bench-scale bioreactor systems (e.g shake flasks and bioreactors) and fermentation monitoring. ·
  • Experienced in protein purification (centrifugation, filtration, chromatography) 
  • Analytical assays (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blots, Bradford/BCA, ELISA) to characterise protein yield and purity.

Salary: £25,000 FTE 

Hours: 4 days a week - 0.8 FTE
Contract length: initially 6-12 months
